Enterprise Linux

Enterprise Linux is conquering data centers for good reason. Companies benefit with enterprise Linux from various advantages, like cost saving and at the same time performance increase and high data security.

Meanwhile there are numerous Open Source operating systems on the market. We can classify them into two types: Linux distributions and open derivatives.

The similarities: Both are Open Source Software. Open  Source is  free software whose source code is available to the public. Duplication, modification, and redistribution of the source code are permitted.

The difference: Open Source providers like Red Hat or Novell offer their operating systems Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server along with support possibilities in form of subscriptions. Updates are also included during the contract period. Furthermore, the software is certified by numerous hardware and application providers.
In contrast, free Linux variations, like CentOS or Scientific Linux are not certified, or certified only by a few manufactures and the support is provided solely by the development community.

You can only win with Open Source
Using Open Source means having many advantages:

  • Independence: With Open Source you are vendor independent.
  • Flexibility: Because of its openness and the availability of the source code, Open Source Software can easily be extended and adapted to individual requirements, which cannot be said of commercial or proprietary applications.
  • Interoperability: Open Source solutions consistently rely on open standards, so that the interaction with different products causes many fewer problems than in the case of proprietary interfaces.
  • Security: Thanks to detailed “peer reviews” security issues in Open Source software are located and fixed rapidly.
  • Quality: Many Open Source products have an excellent quality standard, which does not take second place compared to commercial solutions. Quite the contrary: Open Source solutions are often better than commercial solutions, because Open Source has been steadily developed further by hundreds of programmers.
